Firefox has released an experimental app in the form of ‘Developer preview’version of its web-based Firefox OS for Android users. It is now available as an 88MB APK and works any launcher you will see in Google Play store.
Firefox OS 2.5 Developer Preview is an app that lets you experience Firefox OS as an alternate home screen on your Android device without having to re-flash and replace your Android installation,” the Mozilla blog states.
It comes with several system apps for making calls, messaging and so on. Moreover, you can also use your regular apps. Just like add-ons in desktop browsers, Firefox OS add-ons can extend just one app, several, or all of them. A new Firefox privacy feature, Tracking Protection, allows users to control their browsing activity. Then there’s Pin the Web that removes the artificial distinction between web apps and web sites and allows pinning any web site or web page to the home screen.
Mozilla also states, it wants developers to play around with the new app. “We’d love for you to play with the Firefox OS 2.5 Developer Preview — to scratch your own itch, test an idea, or contribute to the project by improving performance or finding interesting solutions to the conflict problems with Android system functions mentioned above,” the blogpost state.
